Called and Commissioned by Christ: Isaiah, You, and Me

How have you experienced the Lord’s call in your life, His commissioning to serve Him? The way God worked in Isaiah’s life is similar to the way He works in ours.

Listen to the Word as Isaiah shares God’s story and his: In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”      Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” He said, “Go… (Isaiah 6:1-9a).

God came to Isaiah, revealing His glorious majesty. Awestruck, in the presence of God’s holiness, Isaiah was convicted of and devastated by his personal sin. (God’s conviction of sin is for our own good, the good of others, and His glory). In faith Isaiah cried out to God, confessing his sin. God did not condemn him, but forgave and cleansed him completely of all of his sin. Isaiah was so overwhelmed by God’s amazing gift of grace, so grateful to be made new, that he immediately chose to serve Him with his whole heart! God then commissioned Isaiah, sending him forth to serve. Isaiah’s competency was from God Himself!

God works with us today in the same way He did Isaiah. When/how have you experienced God’s call?

God is waiting to commission you to go forth in His name and in His power… to reach out to a friend, a stranger, a foe or maybe someone in your own family… to possibly face a difficult challenge or even go to a distant place. What is your response? Will you go?
