Our Hope when discouraged, our Help when downcast…

Our predicament: Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me
 (Psalm 43:5a)?

God’s promise: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).

God’s provision: And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). Therefore, put your hope in God and yet praise Him,
your Savior and your God (Psalm 43:5b). Remember that He works all things for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purposes (Romans 8:28).

Our praise: Therefore, we can and are to put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness (Isaiah 61:7). As we change our focus from our situation to our Savior in this way, we enter into the very presence of God … and we are changed. God inhabits the praises of His people (Psalm 2:3 KJV)!

God’s peace: For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
 And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).

How do you face times that discourage you, times that disturb you? In what situation do you need the power of Jesus’ presence and provision to lift your soul and give you peace? What do you need to do, what will you do to focus on your Savior and not your situation?

Will you say like Isaiah, Behold God is my salvation: I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation (Isaiah 12:2).
